AGNP (Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner) and FNP (Family Nurse Practitioner) are both advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) who provide primary care services. However, they differ primarily in the age range of patients they serve.

• FNP: Focuses on patients of all ages, from infants to geriatrics. They offer comprehensive primary care services across the lifespan.
• AGNP: Specializes in the care of adults and older adults. They provide primary care services, acute care, and long-term care for this population.

There are two primary types of Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioners (AGNPs):

1. Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP or AGNP-PC): These NPs focus on providing primary care services to adults and older adults. They manage chronic conditions, conduct preventive care, and diagnose and treat acute illnesses.
2. Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP or AGNP-AC): These NPs specialize in the care of acutely ill adult and geriatric patients in hospital settings. They manage critical illnesses, provide complex care, and often work in collaboration with physicians.

A Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (GNP) specializes in the care of older adults. Key responsibilities of a GNP include:

• Primary care: Conducting physical exams, diagnosing and treating common illnesses, and managing chronic conditions.
• Preventive care: Providing vaccinations, screenings, and health education to promote wellness and prevent disease.
• Medication management: Prescribing and managing medications, considering potential interactions and side effects in older adults.
• Chronic disease management: Developing and implementing care plans for conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and arthritis.
• Mental health assessment: Identifying and addressing cognitive, emotional, and psychological changes associated with aging.
• End-of-life care: Providing support and guidance to patients and families during the end-of-life process.
• Care coordination: Collaborating with other healthcare providers to ensure seamless care for older adults.
